My roommates and I used to be pretty good about remembering to set out the trash on Thursday nights. Occasionally we would forget and have to set it out Friday morning before rushing off to work, but we usually remembered. But then my roommate
Denise got laid off (she has a new job now) and was home on Friday mornings. And she discovered that if we forgot to set out the trash, the “sanitation engineers” would ring the doorbell and wait for Denise to get out of bed, open the garage door, and bring out the trash. This became an (
almost) weekly ritual, and Denise even got to know them. Their names are Henry and Anthony, and they said she looks like Michelle Obama, which is kind of true.
We really appreciate the fact that these men take time out of their morning to ring the doorbell and wait for Denise, so this week we decided to do something to thank them. We made some cupcakes, sealed them up in Tupperware, put a note on top, and left them outside for Henry and Anthony to pick up.
Denise woke up in time to watch Henry and Anthony from her window this morning. She said before they even noticed the cupcakes, Anthony saw that our trash was actually out on the curb and gave a big two thumbs up.
It’s nice to know that they’re cheering for us, don’t you think? I really hope they like their cupcakes.
