11 days to graduation

A storm came through yesterday, and as I stood preparing my grilled cheese sandwich, my roommate came home and ordered me to go outside and see the full double rainbow that arched over our house. In the rain falling slow from an amber-colored sky, even our drab gray house looked romantic with green tree branches hanging heavy with water bowing down around it.
We went for a walk to a nearby garden, and as the sun set, we wondered if anyone had ever seen anything so beautiful in our dusty town. Half the sky remained pearl gray, with occasional lighting strikes, and half the sky displayed brilliant oranges and golds, which refelcted in the many puddles on the gravel road.
We walked through a wet garden, where our feet slid in our flip-flops in the warm mud, and we saw the colors of the flowers brighten with the fresh watering. Behind the garden in a field, which slopes down from a dorm, an abandoned slip-n-slide cut a white swath down the hill.
My roommate and I are not the most daring people, but with no one around, and the sky urging us to take advantage of the moment, we ran toward the top of the hill.
Sarah went first and threw herself down on the wet plastic. She had to jump up and run to gain momentum a couple of time, but when she reached the bottom, she slid smoothy into the chocolate-colored pit below.
I was not as risky as my roommate and began in the middle of the slide, allowing the front side of me to become drenched before leaping off the tarp as it gave way to the pit.
Dripping with muddy water, we rushed back through the field toward our home. At the crest of the hill, we turned back and saw the sunset reflected in the newly made stream winding through the small green valley.
Then we went home, the storm ended, and after showering, I finished making my dinner and Sarah got back to her homework.
