While in Auckland it's easy to forget that I'm in New Zealand, strangely enough.
Last night I watched the All Blacks rugby game (NZ won!) at a pub with Amy, our Austrian friend, an Englishman, a Swiss guy and an Israeli guy. The experience was really fun, but I didn't really see most of the game. Instead the six of us exchanged stories and the English guy tried to explain the rules of rugby to us. I suppose the experience was very New Zealandish, and the pub was full of Kiwis, but it felt very international.
Since I've been here, I've eaten Indian food twice, Chinese food, Mexican and American. And while walking up Queen Street past Korean grocery stores and Chinese markets, I am honestly surprised to hear English spoken.
At church this morning I spoke with a man from Taiwan, an Australian, a South African, a girl from China and several Americans. And it seems as if all the Kiwis I've met are married to South Africans, Americans or Irish.
Yesterday Amy and I hiked up Mt. Eden, which is an extinct volcano. The view of the city from there was amazing and we finally got an idea of how big Auckland really it. It's big. We took lots of pictures, which we should be able to download sometime soon; we looked down into the volcanic crater, and then we hiked down. After that we walked a long way to the Auckland museum to save the bus fare, and after that we met our friends for the rugby game. It was a full and fun day.
Now I'm ready for my Sunday afternoon nap.

sounds like a lot of fun! when will you start making money?
Soooo...I always thought that your blog title, "...posing as a kiwi" was somehow in reference to an interesting piece of fruit. It's strange, yes, but I didn't question it. Just thought you were silly. I had no idea that a kiwi is also a bird native to New Zealand, as well as (I'm assuming) a slang term for New Zealanders. Huh. I learned something new. Go ahead. Laugh at my ignorance. At least I'm not a kiwi...
i love reading your blogs...you are so cute.
