time lost forever

We had Daylight Savings time on Sunday. I wasn't exactly ready, but luckily I didn't show up late for anything. But I was thinking about it, and by the time I get back to the States, I'll have lost three hours of my live, in addition to the 24 hours I lost on my flight over here. However, unlike the hours I lost on my flight, I will never see these other three hours returned to me.

Last spring, I set my clock forward for Daylight Savings in Texas. On Sunday I set my clock forward in Wellington. And in March, when I am back in the Northern Hemisphere somewhere in Asia, I will again be forced to set my clock forward.

In three hours I can watch a good movie and talk about it with a friend, I can read a good book, fly from Texas to Oregon, drive from Abilene to Dallas, play a few games of volleyball, have several great phone conversations, cook a real meal and take time to enjoy eating it, catch up on my emails, earn money at work, or take a long nap.

But apparently, thanks to whoever invented Daylight Savings, I will miss out on one of these things this year.

You can read a good book in three hours? Are we talking something by Tolstoy or a Boxcar Children adventure? :)
