Cafes are a big deal in New Zealand, especially in Wellington, where there are more cafes per capita than in New York City. In all those cafes, there are only three Starbucks, and I am proud that I have yet to buy coffee at one.
My new favorite drink, since white chocolate mochas seem to be lacking, is just a plain mocha. But in all the cafes I've been to here, the mochas are not plain and boring at all. Instead they come in a water glass on a usually brightly colored saucer, with not one, but two marshmallows on the side - usually one pink and one white.
And if that isn't enough, the barrista sprinkles cocoa on the thick foam topping the coffee, and if you're really special (or wink at the male barrista) you get a pretty flower drawn in the foam, which makes mochas so much more fun to drink.
